Subscribe & Save is TikTok Shop UK's subscription feature. Shoppers sign up to get a product delivered on repeat, every week or up to every three months, and you give them a discount for doing it. It's TikTok's own UK feature, so don't assume Amazon's version or the US TikTok Shop rules apply.
Is it worth switching on? For products people run out of and buy again, like supplements, skincare, pet food or baby essentials, it can be. It turns one sale into several without paying to win that customer each time.
But it isn't free money. You give away a discount and free delivery on every order, and you still pay TikTok's fees and your own packing costs. So the real question is simple: once all of that comes out, do you still make money on each repeat order? This guide walks you through how to check.
What is Subscribe & Save on TikTok Shop UK?
Subscribe & Save lets a shopper subscribe to a product instead of buying it once. They choose how often it arrives, anywhere from every week to every three months, and they get a discount on each delivery.
For brands, the appeal is that your second, third and fourth orders come in without another round of ads or creator posts.
Shoppers can cancel whenever they like. If someone cancels straight after a discounted first order, they don't have to pay back the difference.
How does Subscribe & Save work?
For you, the seller
Check your shop and product are eligible (see below).
Switch it on for a product, choose your discount and agree to free delivery on subscription orders.
TikTok creates each repeat order automatically. You pack and ship it like any other order.
You can offer two discounts. A first-order discount applies to the subscriber's first delivery only and is optional. A repeat discount applies to every delivery after that. The first-order discount can't be lower than the repeat one.
TikTok's guide says discounts come in fixed steps of 10%, 15% or 20%. Some industry coverage also mentions a 5% option, so check the rate picker in Seller Centre (your TikTok Shop dashboard) to see what you're offered.
If you change your repeat discount later, new subscribers get the new rate. Existing subscribers keep whichever rate is better for them. So if you drop from 15% to 10%, your current subscribers stay on 15%.
For the shopper
They pick "subscribe" on your product page and choose how often they want it.
They pay a discounted price and get free delivery.
Orders arrive on schedule until they skip or cancel.
Three days before each repeat order, TikTok fixes the price and may hold the stock for it, so running out matters more than usual.
Who's eligible for Subscribe & Save?
Not every shop or product can use it. There are three checks.
1. Your shop needs a good performance score. TikTok rates every shop with a Shop Performance Score, which you'll find in Seller Centre. You need 3.5 or higher.
2. Your product needs to be in an eligible category. TikTok's eligibility table lists these:
Automotive & Motorcycle
Baby & Maternity
Beauty & Personal Care
Computers & Office Equipment
Food & Beverages
Health
Home Improvement
Home Supplies
Luggage & Bags
Pet Supplies
Phones & Electronics
TikTok's guide also mentions Books, Magazines & Audio in one place but leaves it out of the table. If you sell books, check in Seller Centre before you count on it.
3. Your product needs to be listed and selling. A product listed for more than 7 days but less than 30 days is eligible whether or not it has sold. A product listed for more than 30 days needs to have made at least one sale in the past 30 days.
There are a couple of limits too. Product bundles can't use Subscribe & Save. And it's switched on for the whole product, so every variant (each size, shade or flavour) is included. You can't leave one out.
What should you consider before switching it on?
A subscription discount looks small on its own. The trouble is everything else that comes off the same order.
The discount. This comes off every delivery, not just the first.
Free delivery. You cover postage on every subscription order.
TikTok's fee. TikTok charges a platform commission on each sale. TikTok's UK fee guide puts the standard rate at 9% (including VAT), with some categories on different rates. Check yours in Seller Centre. Our TikTok Shop UK fees guide explains the full picture.
Creator commission. This is the bit people get wrong. Creators don't get paid on every repeat order forever. TikTok says creator commission applies to the first purchase, plus follow-up purchases made within 7 days of a shopper viewing the product a creator promoted or adding it to their basket. After that, repeat orders normally carry no creator commission. If you work with creators, let them know, and see our affiliate programme guide for how commission works more widely.
Packing and stock. Every repeat order is another parcel to pick, pack and send.
Other promotions. A subscriber's first order can be combined with Flash Sales and campaign discounts. Repeat orders can still be combined with discounts you fund yourself, but not with discounts TikTok funds. So the first order can look great while repeat orders run on thinner margin.
A simple example
Say you sell a supplement for £30 and offer 10% off on subscription. These numbers are made up for illustration, so swap in your own.
First order (via a creator) | Repeat order | |
|---|---|---|
Shopper pays | £27 | £27 |
Product cost | £8 | £8 |
TikTok fee (9%) | about £2.40 | about £2.40 |
Creator commission (15%) | about £4 | £0 |
Packing and postage | £4 | £4 |
What's left | about £8.60 | about £12.60 |
The first order makes less because the creator is paid. Repeat orders make more because they aren't. That's the case for Subscribe & Save. But if your product costs more to make, or your discount is higher, the margin shrinks fast. Run your own numbers at each discount level, and remember this ignores refunds, failed payments and ad spend.
When is Subscribe & Save worth it and when isn't it?
It's usually worth it when:
People genuinely run out and rebuy, like supplements, skincare, pet food or baby products
You still make money on a repeat order after the discount, free delivery, fees and packing
You can keep stock steady month to month
It's usually not worth it when:
Your margins are already thin and a 10% discount plus free delivery wipes them out
The product is a one-off buy that people don't need to restock
Your bestseller is a bundle, which can't use the feature
You're hoping it'll fix poor first-order returns from ads. It won't. It only helps if repeat orders make money.
If you sell in beauty or wellness, our guides to TikTok Shop for beauty brands and TikTok Shop for supplement brands cover the wider picture.
How do you set up Subscribe & Save?
In Seller Centre, go to Manage Products, pick your product, then More → Set subscription. Or go to Shop → Promotions → Product Subscription.
Choose your repeat discount, and a first-order discount if you want one.
Tick the box to agree to free delivery on subscription orders.
Confirm.
Once it's live, you can track how it's doing under Analytics → Product analytics → Subscription analysis.
Keep stock topped up. Repeat orders can fail if you run out of stock, switch on Holiday Mode (which marks products as sold out) or the payment doesn't go through. After five failures in a row for the same reason, the subscription can be cancelled automatically.
Pause, don't deactivate. If you need to stop, Pause stops new sign-ups but keeps your existing subscribers. Deactivate cancels every current subscription straight away. Delete cancels them and removes the product and its history for good. TikTok strongly advises against the last two.
FAQs
Does Subscribe & Save on TikTok Shop UK require free shipping?
Yes. You have to agree to free delivery on subscription orders before you can switch it on.
What discounts can I offer?
TikTok's guide lists 10%, 15% or 20%, and some industry coverage mentions 5% too. Check the options in Seller Centre.
Do creators get paid on every repeat order?
No. Creator commission covers the first purchase and follow-up purchases within a 7-day window. Later repeat orders usually don't carry creator commission.
Can I use Subscribe & Save on a bundle?
No. Product bundles aren't eligible.
What happens if I turn Subscribe & Save off?
It depends how. Pausing stops new subscribers but keeps current ones. Deactivating or deleting cancels all existing subscriptions for that product.
